Coles Members: Your Roster, Your Rights (August 23 2017)

Dear members,

The AMIEU is aware that many Coles store managers are still pushing an incorrect message about your rostering and about where and when you do your work.

Please read the information below so that you have the facts on the issue.

Your Roster

We are aware that some Coles members are being told to check their roster every day on MyColes in case the roster changes for the next day.

The majority of our Coles members are permanent (full time or part time) workers.

Permanent workers have the legal right to a regular roster and the roster cannot be changed daily.

If you are a permanent worker, you must be given seven (7) days notice of any changes to your roster.

If you then disagree with the changes, you have fourteen (14) days to settle the issue with the company.

This is clearly outlined in clause 15.8 of your Agreement (see below).

You must be consulted about any roster changes.

Your Rights

If you are unhappy with changes being made to your roster, you only need to do two things:

  1. Tell your manager: “I am unhappy with the roster changes and I would like to start the disputes procedure to resolve it. I will be contacting the union and arranging for a meeting to discuss the matter with you.”
  2. Contact the union office as soon as possible on (02) 4929 5496.

We will then arrange for an organiser to contact you and discuss the issue.

It’s okay to say “No”

Don’t be afraid to stand up and say “no” if your store manager is making changes that you are unhappy with.

You have the right to be consulted on where and when you work.

If you don’t speak up, you will only make it easier for the company to push you around in future.

For more information on being asked to work outside of the Meat Department, please see this member update here from June.
