Baiada Beresfield Chlorine Dioxide Incident: Our Investigation Report

The AMIEU Newcastle & Northern NSW Branch has completed our investigation into the Baiada Beresfield chlorine dioxide incident of Monday March 7 2016, where 40 workers were hospitalised following exposure to unsafe levels of hazardous gases. We have now delivered our report.

Our key findings are:

  1. Baiada’s response to the emergency situation was inadequate in a number of key areas
  2. Employees are (rightfully) concerned about the capability of the company to respond to future incidents
  3. More must be done to provide for worker safety at the Baiada Beresfield site
