JBS Scone Workers Vote Yes To New Deal After Industrial Action

Meat workers at JBS Scone have yesterday voted overwhelmingly to accept a revised offer from the multinational meat processor after taking industrial action earlier this month.

On July 6 2018, more than 70 meat workers walked off the job and met in the public park in Scone to protest the company’s unacceptable offer.

These workers knew that JBS is a highly profitable company and that there was plenty of room in the budget to offer something better.

After the walkout, JBS workers returned to the bargaining table, and the company came back with a better offer.

The now-accepted offer also includes a pay rise of up to 13% pay rise over 4 years, a $300 bonus once the deal is signed, the addition of new rostered days off (RDOs) for workers on five-day rosters, and a change to classifications which will mean higher wages for those workers.

89.6% of eligible workers voted yes to the offer.

“This is another great example of what workers can achieve when they stand together, stand up, and stand strong,” said AMIEU Newcastle & Northern NSW Secretary Grant Courtney.

“By joining the union and saying ‘no’, these workers have secured great pay rises and made the company respect that the weekend is their time, not the company’s time.”

“We congratulate all of our members on this good outcome.”
