Wingham Abattoir Workers on Strike

Workers at Wingham Beef Exports walked off the job on Thursday, April 17, 2014 for a 24 hour strike.
The enterprise bargaining has been going on for 30 weeks.
The company offered a wage increase for the lowest paid of around nine percent for the lowest paid around Christmas but the company also wanted to take considerable offsets like rostered days off.
The company wanted to take butchers’ picnic which is a union picnic day which these guys have enjoyed for many many years.
The company also wanted to extend the ordinary working day and there’s a range of other offsets as well for that increase.
Wingham workers’ again picketed on Monday April 28, 2014 and will continue industrial action to pursue a reasonable increases for the lowest paid workers without reducing break times and stripping away public holidays.
